Abstract

In this study, Korean students' perceptions of the value of mathematics and science were examined. To this end, original data from international comparative studies were used to examine students' perceptions of the value of mathematics and science, and Japan and Singapore were selected as comparative countries to provide a reference point for Korean students' perceptions. The research results are as follows. Among the three countries, Korean and Japanese students' perceptions of mathematics and science were often similar, but Korean and Singaporean students' perceptions of the value of mathematics and science differed greatly. In addition, all three countries thought it was important for students to be good at math and science, but their perception of math and science-related jobs was negative. Finally, the perception of male students in all three countries about the value of mathematics and science was more positive than female students.
