Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a science subject selection program based on capacity building using responsive teaching methods that can be used in the free school year, and to use it as a material that can be applied to the actual middle school free school year class. To this end, four science teachers currently serving in middle school developed 17 classes of instructional materials that could be applied to actual middle school free grade classes and applied them to the 2019 free semester theme selection program. The free semester theme selection activity class enables students to easily understand scientific concepts through manipulation and experience, and to develop an attitude of scientific thinking and approach to real-life problems. Also, unlike knowledge-based and memorization-based classes, student-focused classes positively change students' scientific disposition. Therefore, the program materials that can be used in the actual field have been developed to meet the goals and basic directions of the subject matter selection activities related to science.
